From the Chair - October
2008
It was great to share our September meeting on failure analysis with SPE
(Society of Plastics Engineers). Our attendance was so good that our heat
load taxed the meeting room cooling system!
We welcome attendance of all those who share our interests and mission.
Our widely-distributed Bulletin (newsletter) is available for appropriate
meeting announcements from other organizations. Contact me regarding
insertion. And for advertisers, see our reasonable rates.
I have a small example that USA manufacturers can do it in a competitive
market. I recently bought a clever multi-tip screwdriver. It comes with
four magnetically-held tips (of the common ¼” hex size). The spare tips
are captured in the handle – not within the end of the handle under a
screw-off cap. While the shank is said to be shock-proof UL tested to 2000
V, I did not test it. But as an ergonomist I can report that the grip is
excellent. It is made by Allway (pn SD41) in Bronx, NY. I bought it at
Wal-Mart for less than $3. Quite a value, and a fine example of American
manufacturing.
Tell me about your experiences with American manufacturing, at our October
tour
